Students may know about nations and understand states - but counties? How do they work? Here is a game with the answers! In 'Counties Work,' students decide what programs and services get funding, build roads, set the tax rate, handle complaints from the citizenry, and manage a budget to get their county through the fiscal year. If the community is happy, you'll get re-elected - but beware! Managing a county is harder than it looks.

'Counties Work' is part of the immensely successful iCivics game suite, a project to re-introduce civics to middle-school students as part of a larger curriculum. 'Counties Work' introduces students to key concepts in government, management, community and civic participation, while explaining county services and what they do for county residents.
