Fossil Forensics is a game about analyzing, comparing, and making hypotheses about fossils. Tell us what you think...the game will be improved in response to your feedback!
In Fossil Forensics, you’re given a collection of fossils that span millions of years. It’s up to you to arrange them on your collection board in a way that highlights interesting similarities. You’ll examine each fossil, comparing age, skeleton, and other attributes, connecting one fossil to another with comparable traits. You’ll also make claims of possible evolutionary progression, based on traits that imply that the creature may either share a common ancestor or have evolved from one to the next.
At the end you will be scored based on the number of correct connections that you have made, along with how many reasonable progression claims you’ve made. It’s possible to make 15 connections and 4 claims, so re-play and attempt to find the perfect arrangement.
In the next release, we plan to expand the game to address other fossil and evolutionary standards...but it all depends on your feedback! Play the game, share it with your students, and then let us know how you want us to improve it! All new features we add will appear in your game automatically...and for free!
Analyze and interpret data for patterns in the fossil record that document the existence, diversity, extinction, and change of life forms throughout the history of life on Earth under the assumption that natural laws operate today as in the past.
Apply scientific ideas to construct an explanation for the anatomical similarities and differences among modern organisms and between modern and fossil organisms to infer evolutionary relationships.
