About the Game

Set in a simulated sports network office, The Sports Network 2 puts the student in the role of managing director, who has been tasked with building the network's youth viewership. Through immersion in the interactive narrative, players develop their Common Core State Standards English Language skills and are better prepared for assessments.

The Goal

Funded by the Gates Foundation, Classroom Inc. and Filament Games partnered to engineer new learning-objective driven reading practices into a professional practice environment game.

The Results

The Sports Network 2 was launched with an initial pilot in 400 schools, the results of which showed strong ties between the game's activities and improved traditional reading assessment.

iCivics.org is a non-profit organization and web platform dedicated to reinvigorating civic learning through interactive and engaging learning resources. As a learning platform, iCivics provides engaging civics games, additional resources, and a robust LMS to complement and reinforce students' understanding of civics concepts.

The Goal

iCivics wanted to develop a collection of games that would facilitate their mission to prepare young Americans to become engaged 21st century citizens.

The Results

With over 44 million lifetime plays, the games on iCivics.org have been widely adopted in schools across America, and are now serving 72,000 teachers and six million students. Research has shown that iCivics games improve assessment outcomes, with students using iCivics assessed as 38% more likely to write "excellent" civics essays than those who hadn't used iCivics.
