The Game-based Learning Review – Episodes 2 & 3: We’re Live!

Welcome back to the Game-based Learning Review, your go-to destination for all things game-based learning. We’ve been busy since our first episode and now have two streams under our belt. Check them out below!

The Game-based Learning Review, Episode 2: Dan and Brandon Play RoboCo (Part 1 of numerous)

In this episode, Dan and Brandon scrubbed off some rust, oiled some hinges, got down to nuts and bolts, and also played an educational video game. We take a look at our digital robotics game RoboCo, play through some of the early levels, and discuss the design complexities of making an open-ended STEM sandbox. We’ll continue with this playthrough over the course of the next year, so keep your wrenches ready.

The Game-based Learning Review, Episode 3: Reach for the Sun with Special Guest Ed Metz!

In this week’s episode we’re live with Ed Metz, former leader of the Department of Education’s Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. As we chat, Dan Norton carefully orchestrates the growth of a toad lily in Reach for the Sun, an award-winning Filament Games classic about photosynthesis and plant growth which got its original funding from the SBIR program. In this wide-ranging discussion, we cover the origins of SBIR, the shifting funding landscape in EDU, the existential importance of starch, and prognostications for the future of education. It’s a packed hour!
