Go Virtual: Digital EdTech Conferences to Attend in 2020 and 2021

As the Steve Miller Band once inimitably pointed out, time keeps on slipping into the future. With lots of the world still in lockdown from the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve yet to see a true return to normalcy. If you’re like me, this situation has one question burning at the top of your mind: in these unprecedented times, how will I stay apprised of the latest educational technology developments? Not to worry, my friend. Educational technology is nothing if not adaptive. Conferences around the country have transitioned to a virtual model, so we can stay connected and informed about everyone’s favorite educational industry sector niche. Read on for a round up of upcoming digitally-infused educational technology conferences, and let me know what I missed!

Serious Play Conference

The Serious Play conference is a tried-and-true game-based learning gathering, positioned as a leadership event for professionals who are exploring the use of game-based learning, sharing their experience and working together to shape the future of training and education. Serious Play has already announced that all 2021 sessions will be online only, so this is a great way to learn about the cutting edge of game-based learning from the comfort and security of your own home.

SXSW EDU Online

In light of ongoing pandemic circumstances, SXSW is launching SXSW EDU Online as part of their 2021 offerings. The digital experience will feature conference keynotes and sessions, screenings, showcases, networking, and exhibitions. The dates for SXSW EDU Online are March 9 – March 11, 2021 and SXSW Online will take place March 16 – March 20, 2021.

Reimagine Education

Reimagine Education is taking advantage of virtual-only restrictions by extending their conference to a 10-day experience. From December 2nd to December 8th, attendees will enjoy highly informative webinars and workshops as part of the inaugural Reimagine Education Week. The Reimagine Education week will be held at the innovators virtual exhibit hall, where attendees will be able to learn more about the 120 Reimagine Education’s shortlisted applicants, interact with them using the virtual chat facility, and vote for their favorite innovations. The main event, the Reimagine Education Conference & Awards, will run from December 9th to December 11th.

FETC 2021

The Future of Education Technology Conference has a great opportunity this year to live up to its name! Running from January 26-29, 2021, FETC 2021 will be a fully interactive, free, virtual, multi-day conference experience using state-of-the-art technology — not just a series of canned webinars. Attendees will hear from blockbuster keynotes, learn from top experts and innovators in education technologies, experience AI-based networking to build their professional learning networks, and explore the cutting-edge FETC Virtual Expo where solution providers will demonstrate all the latest apps, hardware, software and tech tools to help schools and districts emerge stronger in this new era.

TCEA 2021

In a nod to uncertainty, TCEA 2021 will be adopting a hybrid in-person and online model to hedge against the risks posed by the global pandemic. This year, TCEA is partnering with the Illinois Digital Educators Alliance (IDEA) to provide expanded virtual learning opportunities and new ways for educators to grow their professional learning networks. These organizations will provide registrants to offer three weeks of programming from two trusted networks — TCEA and IDEA. Live sessions begin February 1–6, 2021, and will be available on-demand for 30 days after the event.
